Our Story

Fellow human Emily Bett Rickards discovered matcha while searching for an alternative to coffee. She went from consuming six black cold brews a day to quitting cold turkey. Coffee wasn’t just a problem—it was a deeply ingrained habit. After 10 or even 20 years of mindlessly reaching for her dark brew, she faced high cortisol levels, breakouts, and a feeling that life was slipping away.

When Emily first sipped homemade matcha, she was captivated—not just by the green elixir she whisked herself, but by the self-reflection it inspired. This was a wake-up call that gently guided her into a new chapter of life and matcha appreciation.

Legend has it (and it’s backed by actual documentation) that Emily has been seen whisking matcha on set, in a plane’s aisle seat, in the middle of a no-reception forest, and even while surfing.

Emily has tasted almost every matcha on the face of the earth to find the three that Paradise offers today. It was crucial to her that they be organic and sourced directly from Japan. More than that, each matcha is selected to help you fully engage with the life you’re living and the world around you, rather than merely rushing through it.

That’s the goal of Paradise: to be present, to choose joy, and to savor exceptional matcha.

Frequently asked questions

Matcha is a type of green tea, specifically known as Tencha, that undergoes a special shading process before being ground into a fine powder. Unlike traditional green tea, where the leaves are steeped and then discarded, matcha involves consuming the entire leaf in powdered form. This method not only intensifies the flavor but also provides a richer concentration of nutrients.

Matcha is rich in antioxidants, boosts metabolism, enhances mood and focus, and supports overall wellness. In other words... it's amazing!

Matcha can be enjoyed by most people, including tea lovers, health enthusiasts, and those seeking a natural energy boost. It’s suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and fitness enthusiasts. However, individuals who are pregnant, nursing, or sensitive to caffeine should consult a healthcare professional before incorporating matcha into their diet.

Yes, matcha contains caffeine. A typical serving of matcha has about 30-70 mg of caffeine, depending on the amount used. This is generally lower than a cup of coffee but provides a gentle energy boost along with other health benefits.

Store your matcha in the fridge when it’s unopened to keep it fresh. Once opened, transfer the matcha to an airtight container and keep it in a cool, dark place. For added freshness, you can also store the opened matcha in the fridge, but ensure it’s sealed tightly to prevent moisture from affecting it.

If your kitchen is particularly hot or humid, allow the matcha to come to room temperature before opening the container to avoid condensation.

Matcha typically has a shelf life of 6 to 12 months when stored properly. For optimal flavor and nutritional quality, it’s best to consume it within this timeframe. Once opened, the color and flavor of matcha will gradually change due to oxidation. To minimize this process, keep it in an airtight container in a cool, dark place, or refrigerate it to maximize freshness.
